NCAA Graduation Success Rates continue on upward trend

NCAA President Myles Brand’s goal of an 80 percent Graduation Success Rate for Division I is a percentage point closer to frui­tion with the release of NCAA data showing the overall GSR for the division at 77 percent, up from 76 percent last year.

“All the trends in the data are headed in the right direction,” Brand said. “There’s upward movement across the board, though there still are some outliers and some more work to be done.”

Baseball panel studies impact of financial aid on academics

With scholarship increases unlikely, working group considers restructuring current practices

The NCAA panel charged with addressing Division I baseball’s academic performance will concentrate on transfer issues at its next meeting October 22-23 in India­napolis.

The 26-member Baseball Academic En­-hancement Working Group will continue its discussions about the classroom performance of baseball student-athletes fresh off recent data indicating that baseball ranks second to last in graduation rates among all sports.
