Milestones: James Lancaster collected his 250th victory as a basketball coach at Aurora University when his men's team defeated Clarke College February 7. Lancaster's victory total includes 58 wins as the school's women's coach from 1990 to 1994.

Miscellaneous: A former Juniata College football star who went on gain fame as a National Football League coach has paid homage to the liberal arts education he received at his alma mater by donating $1 million to endow a faculty chair. Chuck Knox, who coached the Los Angeles Rams to a conference title game and turned the Seattle Seahawks into a contender, presented the gift to endow the Dr. Charles R. and Shirley A. Knox Chair in History. Knox was co-captain of Juniata's first undefeated football team in 1953, playing on both offense and defense as a tackle, and he also competed in the discus and shot put in track and field. He majored in history at the school, where he became an assistant football coach upon graduation in 1954, before coaching at high schools and ultimately at major university programs and in the NFL. Knox, who holds an honorary doctor of law degree from Juniata, credits the school with preparing him for his success, and said he especially wanted to assist the program in which he majored, while honoring the education he received. "It was a classic liberal arts education where I was able to learn from many different fields," he said. Juniata President Thomas Kepple said, "Chuck has been a tremendous influence on the history and academic legacy of Juniata. He is proud of the education he received at Juniata, and to give us the resources to recruit and retain brilliant historians is a gift beyond measure, one that will affect our students and graduates for generations to come." The first recipient of the Knox Chair is David Hsiung, a published author who was honored in 2000 as Pennsylvania Professor of the Year.
