Facilities: Adrian College will build a stadium seating at least 2,500 fans before fall 2006, permitting its football team to play on campus for the first time since 1950 and also setting in motion plans to add field hockey and men's and women's lacrosse as varsity sports. The $6.5 million project also will feature a separate track facility, and other features include the ability to cover half of the stadium's synthetic field with an inflatable dome that would nearly double Adrian's indoor space for athletics during winter months. "It won't be long until our teams will be playing at home, at their own facilities," said Rick Creehan, Adrian executive vice president and head of the project. "Imagine having these events right on campus, where it's a short walk for students to cheer on their classmates and have a great time." The football team currently plays at a local high school field. School officials said they believe the new facility, which also will provide a home for soccer and the new field hockey and lacrosse teams, will help attract more students to campus by boosting the campus atmosphere and school spirit. Officials believe Adrian will become the only university or college in Michigan to sponsor varsity men's and women's lacrosse teams with its introduction of those programs in 2007-08. Also, its sponsorship of  field hockey marks the return of that sport, which was discontinued in 1990.

Milestones: Ted Bulling reached an unusual milestone when his Nebraska Wesleyan University men's and women's cross country teams recently won Great Plains Athletic Conference championships. The victories brought Bulling his 50th conference title as the Prairie Wolves' cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field coach. Bulling has coached men's track and field at the school since 1986, and he added women's track two years later, men's cross country in 1990 and women's cross country in 1996. Nebraska Wesleyan teams have won nearly half of the 102 league meets they have participated in under Bulling's direction ... Jim Johnson achieved his 300th career victory when his men's and women's swimming and diving teams at Pacific Lutheran University each defeated Pacific University (Oregon) in dual competition. Johnson is in his 28th year at the school.
