Milestones: Don Meyer, men's basketball coach at Northern State University, won his 800th game December 11 when the Wolves defeated the University of Minnesota Duluth, 69-50. Meyer has won the 800 games at three different institutions over more than 32 years while moving up to the eighth position for most wins ever in men's college basketball. He began his career in 1972 at Hamline University, where he coached for three years. From there, he moved to David Lipscomb University, where he coached for 24 years and won 665 games. He came to Northern State in 2000.

Sports sponsorship: The University of Alaska Fairbanks will initiate a varsity women's swimming program in fall 2005. Scott Lemley, a former Alaska Fairbanks swimmer who has spent the last five years as head coach at a Fairbanks-area high school, will coach the team.

Conferences: The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has approved provisional memberships for Claflin University, Lincoln University (Missouri) and Langston University. "We are delighted to give Claflin, Lincoln and Langston the opportunity to become a part of the SIAC family," said SIAC Commissioner Bill Lide. "We also consider it an honor that these fine institutions would like to be a part of the growth and expansion of the conference."
