Commissioners announce 2005 scholar-athletes

Sixteen regional winners of the Division II Conference Commissioners Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award have been announced.

The award, sponsored by Disney Sports Attractions, highlights the achievements of Division II student-athletes. "Division II has the best of both worlds, great athletes and great students," said Division II CCA Chair Bob Hiegert, commissioner of the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

A male and female Division II Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be selected in late August from the regional winners. To be nominated for consideration, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.000 cumulative grade-point average while exhibiting outstanding athletics credentials.

The eight women's regional winners are Heather Hamilton, University of Minnesota Duluth; Jennifer Howard, Francis Marion University; Laura Kline, Kutztown University of Pennsylvania; Sara Murray, Truman State University; Margot-Merrill Johnson, Montana State University-Billings; Stefanie Strauss, University of Wisconsin, Parkside; Greta Trotman, Barry University; and Jennifer Walker, Bentley College.

Men's regional winners are Joe Berger, Michigan Technological University; Cameron Dayne, Morehouse College; Aaron Graumann, Augustana College (South Dakota); Luqman Jaaber, Virginia Union University; Mike Larson, California University of Pennsylvania; James Newman, Assumption College; Clint Prange, Northwest Missouri State University; and Stuart Richmond, California State University, Los Angeles.

Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex hosts more than 170 events in more than 30 sports each year, including the Division II Men's and Women's Tip-Off Classic basketball tournaments.
