NCAA chooses Iowa assistant for director post

Anthony Dean, an assistant director of athletics at the University of Iowa, has been hired as a director of the Division I Men's Basketball Championship at the NCAA national office. Dean will assist in overseeing various aspects of the 65-team tournament beginning August 29.

Dean, a four-year letter-winner on the Hawkeyes football team (1991-94), joined the athletics department in October 1997 as director of sports camps. In 2001, he was promoted to assistant athletics director, while remaining in charge of Iowa's sports camps.

He has previous championship administrative experience as co-director of the Big Ten Conference Women's Gymnastics Championships in 2005 and as director of the Big Ten Cross Country Championships in 2004 at Iowa.

Dean is a 1994 graduate of Iowa in sport, health, leisure and physical education. He also earned a master's degree there in recreation and sport management.
