Several honors and awards were given during a June 16 luncheon at the NACDA convention.

Among them was the James J. Corbett Memorial Award, which is presented annually to the athletics administrator who through the years has most typified Corbett's devotion to intercollegiate athletics and worked unceasingly for its betterment. Corbett, former athletics director at Louisiana State University, was NACDA's first president in 1965.

This year's winner was Bob Bronzan, retired director of athletics from San Jose State University. "Receiving the Corbett Award has three special meanings to me," Bronzan said. "First, Jim was a dear friend. Secondly, this award crowns 65 years of being involved with intercollegiate athletics. And thirdly, it's a tribute from peers, and that means so much."

Also presented at the luncheon was the NACDA/NIT Athletics Directors Award, to Gene Bartow, retired director of athletics from the
University of Alabama Birmingham; and the SportsBusiness Journal Athletics Director of the Year Award to DeLoss Dodds, men's director of athletics at the University of Texas at Austin.

The NACDA/NIT Award is presented to an athletics administrator who has made significant contributions to basketball and the National Invitation Tournament.

Also, the GeneralSports TURF Systems AD of the Year Awards were presented. The program, in its seventh year, honors athletics directors for their demonstration of commitment to higher education and student-athletes; continuous team- work, loyalty and excellence; and the ability to inspire individuals or groups to high levels of accomplishments. In addition, each AD's institution must have passed a compliance check in which the institution could not have been on probation or cited for a lack of institutional control within the last five years during the tenure of the current athletics director.

The program recognized the following 16 regional winners from NCAA institutions:

Division I-A -- Jake Crouthamel, Syracuse University; DeLoss Dodds, University of Texas at Austin; Dave Hart Jr, Florida State University; Tim Weiser, Kansas State University.

Division I-AA/I-AAA -- Scott Barnes, Eastern Washington University; Susan Hofacre, Robert Morris University; Andrea Myers, Indiana State University; Alan White, Elon University.
