Graduation-rates information due to NCAA national office

NCAA institutions are required to report the information contained in the federal Graduation Rates Survey (GRS) to the Association as a result of emergency legislation at the Divisions I, II and III governance meetings in January.

The information was due to the national office by May 5, but a number of institutions have yet to provide the data. The penalty for not complying is ineligibility for NCAA championships the next year.

The graduation-rates data may be submitted either by sending the same data file that is submitted to the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data Systems (IPEDS) or by completing a paper copy that can be found on NCAA Online at www.ncaa.org/research/grs_4yr_form.pdf. Institutions completing the paper copy should provide data for Column 10 on page 1.

Those with questions about this legislation or electronic submission of the GRS data may contact Maria DeJulio at 913/397-7668 or mdejulio@ncaa.org. To fax a copy of the report, call 913/397-7675.

RESEARCH

Archives initiative provides championships data online

FONT SIZE=3>The NCAA has launched a Web-based initiative that will provide easier access to the Association's vast championships history currently housed in the library archives at the national office.

A Pennsylvania-based firm already has scanned more than 30,000 pages of box scores, programs and other championships material in baseball, softball, and track and field as part of a pilot project that should be available online in June.

Championships databases for fall sports will begin being compiled once the pilot is completed. The database, which will be searchable by institution and student-athlete name, will allow users to access information about previous NCAA championships online rather than having to call the NCAA library staff for paper files.

Thomas Technology Solutions, a software and systems integration firm that has provided similar services for the College Board, Merriam-Webster and Oxford University Press, is conducting the data capture and Web-based conversion.
