Ford-Kee elevated to associate AD/SWA

Shaw promoted Dianthia Ford-Kee to senior woman administrator and associate athletics director.

Ford-Kee, a member of the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics and the Division II Management Council, has guided Shaw's women's volleyball and softball programs for the past 14 years. Named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association coach of the year in 1995 and 2001, she led the volleyball squad to a 247-158 mark, seven straight CIAA Eastern Division titles and the 1995 conference championship during her tenure.

Ford-Kee also guided the softball team to a record of 309-207 and conference championships in 1994, 1996 and 2003. Under her direction, the Lady Bears made their first appearance in the Division II Mid-Atlantic softball regional tournament in 2003.

Ford-Kee earned a bachelor of arts degree in business administration at Fayetteville State and earned a master of arts in public affairs at Northern Illinois.

Robert Aebersold was announced as interim president at Central Connecticut State. Aebersold formerly was president at Slippery Rock.

Directors of athletics

Washington named Todd Turner as athletics director, effective August 1. Most recently, Turner was director of athletics at Vanderbilt for seven years and formerly held the same position at North Carolina State and Connecticut ... Bridgeport named Jay Moran as director of athletics ... Kutztown appointed Jack Entriken as interim director of athletics to succeed Clark Yeager, who resigned to become assistant to the provost at the school ... Randall Spetman was announced as director of athletics at Utah State to replace Rance Pugmire, who resigned. Spetman retired in October as athletics director at Air Force.

Senior woman administrators

Morehead State hired Paula Jackson as senior woman administrator, assistant athletics director and compliance officer. Jackson, who replaces the retired Jim Wells, formerly was an assistant athletics director and senior woman administrator at Clark Atlanta ... Lynn Tubman accepted responsibilities as associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator at Philadelphia U., effective July 16. Tubman formerly was athletics director at LaRoche for six years and also served as associate athletics director and senior woman administrator at Drexel for two years.

Associate director of athletics

Massachusetts-Dartmouth named Louise Goodrum as associate athletics director.

Assistant director of athletics

Southern Mississippi elevated Mike Montoro to assistant director of athletics for media relations. Montoro was director of athletics media relations.

Coaches

Baseball -- Phil Price was chosen as interim head coach at Maranatha Baptist to succeed the retired Jerry Terrill, who has been in charge of the program since 1979.

Baseball assistant -- Jerry Sidman was chosen as an assistant coach at CCNY.

Men's basketball -- Dan Peters was chosen as interim head coach at Cincinnati. Peters has been with the Bearcats program for five years and has served as associate head coach for the past two years ... Manchester appointed Brad Nadborne as head coach ... Adam Stockwell was hired as head coach at Clarkson. Stockwell, who replaces Tobin Anderson, has worked as an assistant at Canisius since 1999... Western State selected Al Sokaitis as head coach. Sokaitis, who has spent the past eight years as head coach at Alaska Fairbanks, takes over for Steve Phillips ... Paul Phillips resigned after eight years as head coach at Clark (Massachusetts)... Maranatha Baptist selected Rob Cronin as head coach to succeed Jerry Terrill, who retired after guiding the program since 1979 ... Belmont Abbey chose Dale Kuhl as head coach.

Men's basketball assistants -- Owen Miller was selected as an assistant coach at Colorado State to replace Buzz Williams. For the past six seasons, Miller has been associate head coach at Texas-San Antonio ... LSU appointed John Treloar as an assistant coach. Treloar was an assistant at Indiana for seven years ... Kyle Vogt was
hired as director of basketball operations at Bradley, effective August 1. Vogt has served as an assistant coach at Wisconsin-Platteville since April 2003 ... Bill Pope was added as an assistant coach at Louisiana-Lafayette. Last season, Pope worked as an assistant at Youngstown State ... Molloy named Hugh Flaherty as head coach. Flaherty has been an assistant at the school and spent part of the 2003-04 season as interim head coach for the program ... Tara Macciocco was hired as head women's basketball coach and assistant volleyball coach at Marywood. For the past three years, Macciocco has worked as an assistant women's basketball coach at Wilkes ... Tennessee State tabbed Tracee Jones as interim head coach to replace Sharon Allen. Field hockey -- Springfield selected Melissa Rogers as head coach. Rogers, who replaces the retired Dottie Potter Zenaty, has been an assistant with the program for two seasons ... Megan Eddinger was elevated to head coach at Muhlenberg to succeed Kristen Stuckel, who will continue as head women's lacrosse coach at the school. Eddinger has worked as an assistant field hockey coach for the past three years ... Aimee Seward was tabbed as head coach at Richard Stockton. Seward, who replaces MaryKate Madden, has been head field hockey coach and head women's lacrosse coach at Elizabethtown for the past two years.

Football -- Minnesota State Mankato hired Jeff Jamrog as head coach. Jamrog, who replaces Clarence Holley, has been defensive coordinator at Western Illinois since this spring and formerly spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Nebraska ... Oklahoma State awarded head coach Les Miles a one-year contract extension through 2010... Darrell Alt was elevated to interim head coach at Juniata. Alt has been an assistant coach. Gabe Luvara accepted additional responsibilities as offensive coordinator at Duquesne. Luvara will continue as offensive line coach. The school also announced Donte Small as running backs coach, Tim Pichette as defensive backs coach and Randy Vulakovich as receivers coach ... Minnesota Duluth appointed Tony Biesiot as defensive line coach. Biesiot formerly was an assistant at Chadron State, Sacramento City College and Minot State University ... Upper Iowa named Greg Davis as offensive line coach ... Jacksonville promoted linebackers coach Craig Hauser to defensive coordinator to replace Shap Boyd. The school also named Adam Borrell as secondary coach, special teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator. Borrell has spent the last four years at Gannon.

Men's and women's golf -- Liberty named Jeff Thomas as head men's coach ... Manchester chose Jeff Kock as head men's and women's coach ... Dustin Ashby was appointed as head men's coach at Missouri-St. Louis ... Steve Jones was chosen as head women's coach at Butler ... Adams State announced Bryce Bervig as head men's and women's coach. The women's team will begin varsity competition in the fall of 2005. Bervig formerly was head coach of the men's squad for two seasons before resigning in 2003 ... Chris Gomez accepted responsibilities as head women's coach at Wichita State. Gomez has been head men's and women's coach at Dakota Wesleyan University for three years ... Jim Taketa was chosen as head men's and women's coach at Jacksonville. Taketa replaces Mike Fleming, who retired after four seasons with the Dolphins ... Mark Leroux was tabbed as head men's coach at Missouri ... Loyola (Illinois) selected Adam Kwiatkoski as head men's coach. Kwiatkoski was head women's coach at the school from 1999-03.

Men's and women's gymnastics -- Ohio State's Larry Cox resigned as head women's coach. Carey Fagan was appointed as interim head coach.

Men's and women's ice hockey assistants -- Pat Mikesch was hired as an assistant men's coach at Michigan Tech. For the past eight years, Mikesch has been playing professional ice hockey ... David Quinn accepted responsibilities as associate head men's coach at Boston U.

Men's and women's lacrosse -- Elizabeth Broade Ota was selected as head women's coach at Lehigh ... George Washington elevated Chrissy Lombard to head women's coach. Lombard most recently has served as an assistant with the program.

Men's and women's lacrosse assistants -- Michelle Lare was selected as an assistant women's coach at Limestone ... Long Island appointed Megan Anderon as an assistant women's coach.

Men's and women's rowing -- Christine Deatrick was named as head coach at Stetson. Deatrick, who has been head women's coach at Temple for the past three years, replaces Charles Huthmaker.

Men's soccer -- Max Schuyler resigned as head coach at Maranatha Baptist. The school selected Josh Caucutt as Schuyler's successor ... Jacksonville named Mike Johnson as head men's soccer coach. Johnson has spent the past six seasons as head women's soccer coach at the school.

Women's soccer -- Gordon appointed Marc Whitehouse as head coach. Whitehouse formerly guided the women's program to three Commonwealth Coast Conference championships in seven years and has spent the past five years as head coach of Gordon's men's squad ... Nick Juengert was elevated to full-time head coach at Richard Stockton after leading the program on a part-time basis last season ... Wisconsin-Oshkosh tabbed Erin Leinweber as head coach ... Jacksonville appointed Chris Kouns as head coach to replace Mike Johnson, who took over the school's men's soccer program.

Women's soccer assistants -- Ike McMillan was tabbed as an assistant coach at Missouri-St. Louis ... Bess Watson was added as an assistant women's soccer coach, assistant lacrosse coach and assistant sports information director at Gordon.

Softball -- Arkansas named Jamie Pinkerton as head coach ... Tara McCoy resigned after six seasons as head coach at Austin Peay State ... Westminster (Missouri) head softball and volleyball coach Chris Viers resigned. Viers guided the programs for four years.

Squash -- Mount Holyoke tabbed Pamela Saunders as interim head coach to replace Katie Hawke.

Men's and women's swimming and diving assistants -- Steve Steketee was appointed as an assistant men's and women's coach at West Virginia. Steketee was an assistant coach at Denver last year ... Tulane appointed Lena Darnell as an assistant swimming and diving coach.

Men's and women's tennis -- Frank Rivera was chosen as head coach at Lehman ... Drexel selected Whitney Springfield Thain as head men's and women's coach ... Allison Joanlanne accepted responsibilities as head women's coach at Misericordia. The program is scheduled to begin varsity competition this year. Joanlanne has been a professional tennis instructor at Premier Athletic Club in New York for the past four years.

Men's and women's track and field -- CCNY appointed Lyndon George as head men's and women's coach.

Men's and women's track and field assistant -- Leroy Solomon accepted duties as an assistant coach at Lehman.

Men's and women's volleyball -- Lehman named Edwin Gonzalez as head coach ... Clarkson hired Ryan Baker as head coach. Baker has been a graduate assistant at Ithaca ... Jacksonville elevated Kevin Paul to head women's coach. Paul, who has been an assistant at the school since 2001, replaces Courtney Dipert.

Men's and women's volleyball assistants -- Traci Dahl was added as an assistant women's coach at Hofstra ... Brian Hosfeld was hired as an assistant coach at Texas. Hosfeld was in charge of the women's program at Baylor from 1996 to 2003 ... Cerina Pele was tabbed as an assistant coach at Jacksonville. Pele is a 2004 graduate of Florida State, where she was a four-year letterwinner for the Seminoles.

Men's and women's water polo -- Brown named Joe Linehan as head men's and women's coach.

Staff

Athletic trainers -- Katherine Moskal was tabbed as head athletic trainer at New Paltz State. Since 1998, Moskal has been an assistant athletic trainer at Cal State Northridge ... Transylvania named Timothy A. Tommerup as head athletic trainer. Tommerup has been an athletic trainer at Southern Arkansas ... Richard Stockton selected Kristin Camm as an athletic trainer. For the past two years, Camm has worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer and an assistant athletic trainer at Montclair State.

Assistant athletic trainers -- New Paltz State added Drue Stapleton as an assistant athletic trainer ... Jennifer Mackenzie was added as an assistant athletic trainer at Elon. Mackenzie has been an assistant athletic trainer at Cal Lutheran.

Compliance assistant -- Jacksonville named Dustin Gray as a compliance assistant. Gray spent last year working at Florida Atlantic.

Development -- William A. Richter was hired as director of athletics development and executive director of the Catamount Club at Western Carolina to replace Marty Ramsey, who was named as director of alumni affairs at the school. For the past five years, Richter has worked as director of athletics marketing and promotions at Pennsylvania.

Sports information -- Maranatha Baptist hired Rob Thompson as sports information director and athletics events manager ... Josh Ellis was chosen as assistant director of athletics media relations at Jacksonville. Ellis, who has been at Sacramento State for the past three years, replaces Rich Retyi.

Sports information assistants -- Southern Mississippi promoted Mike Martinez to men's basketball sports information director. Martinez has been with the school since 2000. Southern Mississippi also announced Jared Florreich as assistant director of athletics media relations.

Strength and conditioning -- Adam Johnson assumed duties as strength and conditioning coach at Wayne State (Michigan). For the past year, Johnson has been an assistant strength and conditioning coach at North Dakota ... Russell Patterson was awarded duties as strength and conditioning coach at Appalachian State ... John Patrick was awarded duties as strength and conditioning coach at Jacksonville. For the past two years, Patrick has been a graduate assistant coach at Georgia Southern.

Associations

The National Athletic Trainers' Association announced Chuck Kimmel as president to succeed Julie Max. Kimmel currently serves as assistant athletics director and head athletic trainer at Austin Peay State ... The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics named the following as new officers for the 2004-05 year: Gene DeFilippo, Boston College, president; Tim Curley, Penn State, first vice-president; Lee McElroy, Albany (New York), second vice-president; Kevin White, Notre Dame, third vice-president; Greg Feris, Wayland Baptist, secretary. The organization also chose the following as new members of the Executive Committee for the 2004-05 year: Andy Geiger, Ohio State; Bridget Belgiovine, NCAA; Marcy Girton, TCU; Jody Mooradian, Boston College; and Carol Sprague, Pittsburgh.

Corrections

A caption in the Division I Notes section of the June 7 NCAA News incorrectly identified one of the individuals in the photo as Rider University Director of Public Relations Earle Rommel, rather than Rider Director of Athletics Curt Blake. Blake took part in a ceremony that Rommel emceed in which two Rider baseball coaches had their numbers retired.

Notables

Long Beach State pitcher Jered Weaver was named as the recipient of the Dick Howser Award as the top baseball student-athlete in the nation. Weaver turned in a 1.65 earned-run average and compiled a 15-1 mark for the season. He also became only the 14th pitcher in NCAA Division I history to tally 200 strikeouts in a season with 201.

DEATHS

Duke football student-athlete Micah Harris died in an automobile accident June 11. He was 21. The senior defensive end was a two-year starter for the Blue Devils and had collected 124 tackles and six and one-half sacks in his career.

Frank Newman, president emeritus at Rhode Island, died May 29. Newman was 77.
