Acting for the Division I Management Council, the Division I Academics/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet Subcommittee on Legislative Review/Interpretations issued the following interpretations:

Amateurism/Promotional Activities

1. Student-Athlete Writing, Publishing and Promoting a Book under a Pseudonym. The committee clarified that a student-athlete who writes a book under a pseudonym may also use the pseudonym in the promotion and sale of the book, provided the student-athlete's name does not appear in the book or in any promotional material and the student-athlete is not involved in any in-person activities related to the promotion or sale of the book. Financial Aid/ Initial Counters

2. Recruited Football Student-Athlete who Practices During the Preseason Practice Period but does not Enroll in the Fall Term. The committee confirmed that a recruited football student-athlete who practices during the preseason practice period and does not enroll as a full-time student in the fall term at the certifying institution, but later receives athletically related institutional financial aid (for the first time) during the same academic year (for example, spring semester, winter quarter) shall be an initial counter for that year. Football Off-Campus Recruiting/Head Coach Exception

Replacement of a Football Assistant Coach. The committee confirmed that only a head coach may replace an assistant coach at any time during a week, provided no more than a total of seven coaches are engaging in off-campus recruiting at any one time during a particular week.
