February 11, 2004

Acting for the Division I Management Council, the Division I Academics/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet Subcommittee on Legislative Review/Interpretations issued the following interpretation.

Initial Eligibility/High-School Graduation

1. Completion of High-School Graduation Requirement After the Eighth Semester. For purposes of satisfying the initial-eligibility requirements, the subcommittee confirmed that there is not a high-school graduation time limitation. Thus, a prospective student-athlete who does not graduate from high school after his or her eighth semester, but otherwise satisfies the initial-eligibility core-course requirements, may complete requirements for high-school graduation in a subsequent term (for example, ninth semester) and be immediately eligible without having to delay enrollment until the following academic year.
