Sports sponsorship: College Misericordia will sponsor varsity competition in women's tennis beginning in fall 2004 to coincide with the school's recently completed construction of an on-campus tennis facility. Misericordia, which offered women's tennis at the club level in 2003, will increase its roster of varsity sports to 19 with the addition.

Milestones: A pair of wrestling coaches notched their 400th career coaching victories in recent competition. Bob Skelton achieved the milestone December 13 when Western New England College defeated the University of Southern Maine, 32-13, and The College of New Jersey's David Icenhower gained his 400th victory January 4 in a 47-0 defeat of Lakeland College. Skelton founded the wrestling program at Western New England 30 years ago and his teams have won more than 60 percent of their matches since then. The former Division III Wrestling Coaches Association president has coached 13 Division III all-Americans. Icenhower is in his 28th season at The College of New Jersey, where his squads have won five Division III team titles and finished in the top five nationally 18 times, while winning 85 percent of its matches. Icenhower currently is a member of the Division III Wrestling Committee ... Monica Severson picked up her 300th victory as head women's basketball coach at Wartburg College when the Knights defeated Iowa Conference foe Coe College, 70-53, January 9. Severson currently ranks second among active coaches in the conference in career wins and is listed among the top 35 Division III coaches in both victories and winning percentage ... Eureka College's Sandy Schuster recorded her 300th career win in women's basketball January 10 when the Red Devils defeated Concordia College (Illinois) in Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference action. The victory total includes 176 victories at Eureka, where Schuster has coached since 1991, and 124 wins at the high-school level in southern Illinois ... Carl Hatchell collected his 250th victory in men's basketball when Meredith College defeated Greensboro College, 81-76, November 25. All of those victories were earned at Meredith, where Hatchell has coached for 16 seasons.
