Milestones: Barbara Stevens, the winningest women's basketball coach in Division II and New England history, won her 500th game as coach at Bentley College with a 65-58 victory over Southern New Hampshire University February 10. After the victory, Stevens' overall career record stood at 657-140, including stints at Clark University and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Stevens is the third women's basketball coach in New England history to amass 500 wins at one school. She reached the milestone in her 18th season at Bentley in just 579 games. She joined Connecticut's Geno Auriemma and Tim Shea of Salem State College as New Englanders who have won 500 games at the same institution ... Fred Thompson, men's basketball coach at Millersville University of Pennsylvania, recorded his 100th career victory February 21 with an 80-69 win over East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. After the victory, Thompson's record stood at 100-64 in his sixth season at Millersville ... Cal State University, Los Angeles, men's basketball coach Dave Yanai won his 400th career game March 5 with a 74-69 victory over San Francisco State University. Yanai has been a Division II head coach for 27 years, all in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, including the last eight at Cal State L.A. He is only the second coach in the 61-year history of the CCAA to record 400 career wins. His record now stands at 400-328.

Miscellaneous: On some days, everything goes in. At the recent St. Croix Collegiate Classic women's golf tournament in the U.S. Virgin Islands, three members of the same foursome aced a hole during the same round. Tucker McCarthy of Longwood University aced the 14th hole, along with Chelsea Bach of Illinois State University. Casey Biddinger of Rend Lake Community College followed with her hole-in-one on the 17th hole. "We were just on cloud nine for a while," McCarthy said after she and Bach aced the 14th, "then we got to the 17th and Casey made her hole-in-one. I was shocked that all three of us aced a hole within one hour of each other."
