The National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) will launch a new program in June to assist individuals interested in marketing Division II athletics programs.

The program, called "On the Road," will be conducted June 1-3 in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and hosted by the South Atlantic Conference. "On the Road" is supported by NACMA and the NCAA.

The interactive workshop will focus on key marketing and promotion issues that Division II administrators face each day. Trip Durham, assistant athletics director at Elon University and organizer of the event, said that the workshop will offer solutions to problems, along with inspirational ideas and an opportunity to brainstorm with other Division II administrators.

"When I first joined Elon in 1995," Durham said, "the college was a member of the South Atlantic Conference. I remember the challenges that I faced as a Division II administrator, and I strongly believe that the agenda being put into place for June will be beneficial for all who attend. I am passionate about helping the ranks of Division II athletics when it comes to marketing and promotions."

For this inaugural event, athletics administrators from the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics, Peach Belt, South Atlantic and West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conferences and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association were invited to attend, based on their proximity to the Charlotte, North Carolina, area. To this point, Durham said that 31 administrators have indicated that they will participate.

"That number is good, but not overwhelming," Durham said. "But I am overwhelmed by the fact that we have representatives from 22 schools representing five conferences in six states. With such widespread participation, everybody should be able to pass the baton on what they learn."

The list of registrants also includes a good cross section of administrators including athletics directors, senior woman administrators, sports information directors and faculty athletics representatives, among others.

If this inaugural event is successful, Durham said it may be replicated next year in a more western location.

Registration for "On the Road" is free. Participants are responsible for their travel and lodging expenses. The first 50 registrants will receive a $50 travel stipend. Those seeking more information about registration may call Durham at 336/278-6708.
