Adelphi junior Katherine Hock's six second-half goals led the Panthers to a 12-11 victory over West Chester and their first Division II Women's Lacrosse Championship.

The May 15 championship match was played as part of the inaugural Division II National Championships Festival in Orlando, Florida. The win marks Adelphi's first championship for a women's program at the school.

West Chester, which previously won this event in 2002, dominated the first half of the game and held a 6-1 lead at the break. The Golden Rams maintained a majority of the possessions and outshot Adelphi, 12-5. Kathleen Sheehan tallied three goals and an assist to lead West Chester's charge.

The second half was a different story as the Panthers scored three goals in the first seven minutes to close within 6-4 with 23:28 still remaining in the game. Hock scored six of the Panthers' last seven goals of the game.

After West Chester's Danielle Roy scored at the 22:55 mark to put the Golden Rams up, 7-4, Adelphi rallied with four of the next five goals to tie the score at eight on a Hock goal with 9:01 remaining. West Chester's Kirstin McGouldrick gave the Golden Rams their last lead of the game when she tallied a goal with 7:04 remaining. Adelphi scored the next three goals, two by Hock, to take a 11-9 lead with 4:42 left in the game.

West Chester made their last push with two goals in a row, the final one coming with 2:16 remaining in the game on a shot by Roy. Hock scored what turned out to be the game-winner with 1:29 remaining.

Hock led all scorers with six goals, while Roy led West Chester with four. Sheehan added three goals and four assists.

"Katherine (Hock) was the first recruit I ever signed," said Adelphi head coach Jill Lessne. "She completely stepped up at a time when we needed her. She proved that when you really want something you can acheive it. West Chester is a phenomenal team. They are extremely competitive with top-notch athletes. They made us work really hard for this championship."

West Chester defeated Limestone, 23-12, to advance to the championship game. Adelphi beat C.W. Post, 11-10, to make it into the finals.

Hock was named to the all-tournament team, along with teammates Tara Grodotzke, Lauren Lopez, Allyson Murphy and Melissa Demasi. Others to make the team were Sheehan, Katelyn Martin and Christa Somits of West Chester; Summer Ferraro and Pam Gateau of Limestone; and Trisha Moran and Lauren Lomonaco of C.W. Post.
