Division II Men's Golf Championships

Dates and sites: Regionals will be May 3-5 and hosted by Drury, Northern Kentucky, Barton, Millersville and Western Washington. The finals are May 12-15 at Victoria Hills Golf Course in DeLand, Florida, and will be in conjunction with the inaugural Division II National Championships Festival.

Field: Three 54-hole regionals determine the field of 102 golfers.

2003 team champion: Francis Marion.

2003 medalist: Andrew McArthur, Pfieffer.

Top team contenders: Cal State Chico has been ranked atop the Golf Coaches Association of America/Precept poll the entire spring season. The rest of the GCAA top five are Cal State Stanislaus, West Florida, Cal State Bakersfield and Armstrong Atlantic State. The following teams were ranked first in their region by the Division II Men's Golf Committee: Concord, Bryant, Coker, Armstrong Atlantic State, West Florida, Northeastern State, Missouri Southern State, Grand Valley State, Cal State Chico and South Dakota.

Championships notes: Cal State Chico won the recent Southern California Intercollegiate at UC San Diego. Cal State Stanislaus finished second. The Wildcats also won the Aggie Invitational at UC Davis, posting a final-round 280 to rally past the hosts. Cal State Chico is led by J.J. Jakovac, Jess Stimack, Chris Massoletti and Benjamin Knight ... West Florida won the Southeastern Collegiate at Valdosta State earlier this month, defeating Armstrong Atlantic State and defending Division II champion Francis Marion. Will Grace and Andrea Signor posted top-10 finishes.

Division II Women's Golf Championships

Dates and sites: Regionals are May 4-5 and hosted by Ferris State, Minnesota State Mankato, West Florida and Western New Mexico. The finals will be May 12-15 in conjunction with the Division II National Championships Festival in Orlando, Florida.

Field: Forty-eight golfers compete in the 72-hole event.

2003 team champion: Rollins.

2003 medalist: Charlotte Campbell, Rollins.

Top team contenders: Rollins, Nebraska-Omaha, Grand Valley State and St. Mary's (Texas) were ranked tops in their respective regions as of April 8 by the Division II Women's Golf Committee.

Championships notes: Rollins finished second in the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational in March, an event that included several Division I teams. Rollins placed three players in the top 10, including defending Division II medalist Charlotte Campbell. Mariana DeBiase had the low round of the tournament with a two-under 70 in the final round to finish in fourth place. Freddie Seeholzer tied for eighth. All three played on Rollins' national-championship team last year ... Nebraska-Omaha junior Tanis Hastmann has finished among the top seven in nine of 10 tournaments this year ... St. Mary's (Texas) beat Central Oklahoma at the Texas A&M-Commerce tournament in March. Junior Nicole Wyne shot an opening-round 74. Wyne then placed third overall at the West Texas A&M Invitational.

Division II Softball Championship

Dates and sites: Regionals will be May 6-9 on the campus of a participating institution. The finals are May 13-16 in conjunction with the Division II National Championships Festival in Orlando, Florida.

Field: Forty-eight teams. Six teams will compete at each of eight regional sites in a double-elimination format. Regional winners will advance to an eight-team, double-elimination final.

Selection date: May 3.

2003 champion: UC Davis.

Top contenders: Kennesaw State, Shippensburg, Florida Southern, Nebraska-Omaha and Angelo State were the top five teams in a recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll.

Championship notes: Angelo State is seeking only its second bid to the NCAA tournament. The Rambelles made their championship tournament debut last season ... Top-ranked Kennesaw State, which captured back-to-back national championships in 1995 and 1996, carried a 54-3 record and a 13-game winning streak into late April ... Nebraska-Omaha stumbled early in the season, dropping three of its first seven games, but since then the Mavericks have been nearly unbeatable, suffering just one loss against 32 victories as of mid-April.

Division II Men's Tennis Championship

Dates and sites: First and second rounds will be May 7-9 at sites to be determined. The finals are May 12-15 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida, as part of the Division II National Championships Festival.

Field: A maximum of 64 teams will play in a single-elimination tournament at 16 first-and second-round tournaments to determine the 16-team finals field. Eighteen conferences receive automatic births. The remaining 46 teams will be selected at large.

Selection date: April 28.

2003 champion: Brigham Young-Hawaii.

Top contenders: The following are ranked No. 1 in their respective regions in the most recent Division II Men's and Women's Tennis Committee poll: Kutztown (East), North Florida (Mid-Atlantic), Rollins (Southeast), West Florida (South), Northwood (Great Lakes), Drury (Central), Southwest Baptist (North Central) and Hawaii Pacific (West)

Championship notes: Brigham Young-Hawaii won its second consecutive championship last year with a win over in-state rival Hawaii Pacific. It marked Brigham Young-Hawaii's second overall victory in the championships ... The Division II Men's Tennis Championships discontinued individual championships beginning in 1995 ... California schools have won the most championships of any state, with 19 championships won by nine different institutions.

Division II Women's Tennis Championship

Dates and sites: First and second rounds will be May 7-9 at sites to be determined. The finals are May 12-15 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida, as part of the Division II National Championships Festival.

Field: A maximum of 64 teams will play a single-elimination tournament at 16 first- and second-round tournaments to determine the 16-team finals field. Twenty conferences will receive automatic qualification. The remaining 44 teams will be selected at large.

Selection date: April 28.

Championship notes: Brigham Young-Hawaii is looking for a "three-peat" in this event, having won in 2002 and 2003. The Seasiders also won this event in 1999 and 2000. The men's team also won their championship last year. Brigham Young-Hawaii's strong showing made it the first Division II school to repeat in both events in the same year ... The women's championship dates back to 1982, but individual championships were discontinued in 1995.
