Three promotions have been announced in the NCAA membership services staff.

Dave Schnase has been appointed managing director of membership services, while Julie Cromer and Brad Hostetter have been promoted to directors of membership services.

In his new role, Schnase will assist Kevin Lennon, vice-president for membership services, in the overall supervision of the membership services staff, including oversight of internal operations. Also, during Lennon's absence, Schnase will assume responsibility for supervision of the membership services staff and will serve as communication liaison with Senior Vice-President Bernard Franklin. Schnase also will continue with the responsibilities he had as director of membership services.

Schnase joined the NCAA staff in 1995 after having served as director of athletics compliance at Marshall University. He served as coordinator of legislation until being promoted to director in 1998.

Cromer will assume day-to-day responsibility for academic-reform efforts, including all academic waivers, Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse oversight and educational outreach efforts. Cromer also will assist with staffing the Division I Committee on Academic Performance.

Cromer joined the staff in 1999 after having served as an assistant director of athletics at Wright State University and assistant commissioner of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference. She originally served as a membership services representative, eventually being promoted to the level of associate director.

Hostetter will provide increased leadership in making certain that the interpretations process is performed in keeping with a less bureaucratic, more responsive philosophy. In his role, he will support the staff in a continuing-education role. Hostetter and Laura Wurtz also will oversee work pertaining to Administrative Review Subcommittee waivers.

Hostetter joined the staff in 2000 as a membership services representative. He previously was compliance officer at Weber State University.

In each case, the new roles are reclassifications. The previous positions will not be filled.

In addition, Julie Roe, previously director of student-athlete reinstatement, has been appointed director of enforcement. Roe's previous position in student-athlete reinstatement will not be filled. The student-athlete reinstatement team will be led by Jennifer Strawley, associate director of student-athlete reinstatement.
