Scholar-athlete teams have been chosen in men's gymnastics and women's volleyball by the sports' respective coaches associations.

Stanford University claimed the College Gymnastics Association (CGA) academic team title for the second straight year with a team grade-point average of 3.382. Springfield College finished second and NCAA team champion Pennsylvania State University finished third.

The CGA also honored 41 individual gymnasts as 2004 All-America Scholar-Athletes for attaining at least a 3.500 grade point average in addition to earning a minimum NCAA gymnastics score of 8.0 during the 2003-04 academic year. The U.S. Naval Academy's Drew Barker and Peter Langley achieved perfect 4.000 GPAs and their fourth straight scholar-athlete recognition from the CGA. James Houle of Ohio State University, Matt Metzger of the University of Iowa, and Michael Smith of Springfield also earned four-time honors. Erik Garnett of the University of Illinois, Champaign; James Brennan of Springfield; and Sean Blackman of Navy were the other gymnasts to earn 4.000 GPAs.

In volleyball, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) named 161 college programs as recipients of the 2003-04 AVCA Team Academic Award. Initiated in 1992-93, the award honors teams that maintained at least a 3.300 cumulative team grade-point average during the school year. This year marked the most awards earned in Division II (31) and Division III (48). A total of 36 teams that earned the 2003-04 AVCA Team Academic Award also earned a berth in their respective collegiate postseason tournaments.

In addition, Stanford's men's team became the first men's program to earn the AVCA team award.
