ACE plans regional seminars to assess Supreme Court decisions

The seminars will be at San Francisco's Airport Marriott, September 19; Atlanta's Renaissance Concourse Hotel, September 24; Boston's Seaport Hotel and World Trade Center, September 29; and Chicago's Sofitel O'Hare, September 30.

PLAYING RULES

Effective date of language rule in soccer to be delayed

A zero-tolerance policy for offensive, profane, insulting or abusive language developed by the Men's and Women's Soccer Rules Committee will not be in effect for the 2003 playing season because of differences among the divisional approval bodies.

The Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet, under its authority to examine rules proposals affecting the "image of the sport," did not favor the proposal. The Divisions II and III Championships Committees supported the measure.

The Management Councils and presidential governance groups in each division ratified the championships committee positions, which means the proposal will be sent to the recently created Playing Rules Oversight Committee. That group will be asked to provide a recommendation to the NCAA Executive Committee, which will consider the matter at its October meeting.

The Executive Committee is charged by the NCAA Constitution with resolving differences among the divisions.
