The Interpretation Subcommittee of the Division II Legislation Committee issued the following interpretation:

Use of Discontinued/Nonsponsored Sport Exception

The NCAA Interpretations Subcommittee of the Division II Legislation Committee reviewed two previous NCAA Division II Management Council-approved interpretations [reference: 04/27/89, Item No. 9 and 1/13/98, Item No. 4] and requested that the Council reverse the interpretations to make the discontinued/nonsponsored-sport exception immediately available to student-athletes whose institution indicates through a public announcement that the sport will be dropped.
