Division I modification of wording

Pursuant to NCAA Constitution 5.4.1.1.1, the NCAA Division I Management Council has determined that the following proposal is consistent with the intent of the membership in adopting the original legislation and that sufficient documentation and testimonies exist to establish clearly that the original wording of the legislation was inconsistent with that intent.

The Management Council, by a two-thirds majority of its members present and voting, shall have the authority to recommend intent-based legislation, subject to ratification by the NCAA Division I Board of Directors. Any proposal ratified by the Board shall be effective as of the date identified in the proposal and published in The NCAA News.

Proposal No. 2003-7 --
Championships -- Playing and Practice Seasons --
Women's Bowling

Intent: To modify the bowling playing and practice season so that all competition ends by the last date of final exams for the academic year and institutions are permitted to exempt competition in the National Collegiate Bowling Championship instead of the national governing body championship; further, to specify that the official travel party for the National Collegiate Bowling Championship is limited to 10 individuals.

A. Bylaws: Amend 17.6.4, page 254, as follows:

"17.6.4 End of Regular Season. A member institution shall conclude all practice and competition (meets and practice meets) in each segment in bowling by the conclusion of the national governing body championship in bowling last date of final exams for the regular academic year at the institution."

B. Bylaws: Amend 17.6.5.3, page 255, as follows:

"17.6.5.3 Annual Exemptions. The maximum number of dates of competition in bowling shall exclude the following (see Figure 17-7):

"(b) National Governing Body Collegiate Bowling Championship. Competition in the bowling National governing body Collegiate Bowling championship Championship."

C. Administrative: Amend 31.4.6.3, page 426 , as follows:

(Common provision, all divisions, divided vote.)

"31.4.6.3 Official Traveling Parties. The following are the approved official traveling parties for which expenses shall be provided in accordance with the provisions of this section:

"National Collegiate Women's Bowling 13 10"

Effective date: Immediately.
