Emory made the cross-country trip to play in the Division III Women's Tennis Championships worthwhile, sweeping the singles, doubles and team championships May 14-19 on the Verdieck Courts at the University of Redlands.

The Atlanta-based Eagles won their second team championship, defeating Washington and Lee, 5-1.

Emory took care of business early, winning two of the three doubles matches (Margaret Moscato and Emily Warburg, and Jamie Chan and Shannon Lovett), then three singles bouts to wrap up the title. Warburg, the lone senior on the Emory roster, clinched the crown at the No. 6 singles slot.

The Eagles rode their momentum in the individual events. The singles finals was an Emory-Emory matchup, featuring junior Mary Ellen Gordon, who bested freshman teammate Jolyn Taylor, 6-4, 6-1. It was the first time in NCAA Division III women's tennis history that teammates competed for the singles title.

Both Gordon and Taylor won their semifinals over Washington and Lee opponents in rematches from the team championship clash. Gordon beat Erika Proko, while Taylor beat Lindsey Hagerman.

Gordon and Taylor then paired to win the doubles championship, defeating DePauw's Haley Heathman and Liz Bondi, 6-3, 6-2.

Gordon became the fifth person in Division III women's tennis history to win the singles and the doubles titles in the same year and just the second person to win team, singles, and doubles championships in the same year. She also is the third player to have won three doubles titles.

Gordon finished the season undefeated against Division III competition and sported a record of 34-1 overall. Gordon holds the all-time record at Emory for singles wins with 89. She also holds the school record for career winning percentage in singles (89-13, .873) and doubles (76-19, .800).
