The Division III Men's Golf Committee has forwarded a proposal to the Division III Championships Committee to increase the bracket size from 120 to 135 competitors.

The recommendation, formulated during the golf committee's annual meeting June 9-12 in San Diego, would become effective in 2005 if the Championships Committee approves the measure.

The current field of 120 participants reflects a sponsorship ratio of one team out of every 11 to make the championship. With 135 participants, the ratio would be 1 to 10.

The committee also forwarded a recommendation for the 2005 championships site. During the committee's annual meeting next summer, members will review and recommend sites for 2006 and 2007. After those selections are made, the committee will continue awarding sites three years in advance. Individuals interested in submitting a bid should contact Donnie Wagner at the national office.

In other action, the committee changed the championships meal to a Sunday evening banquet rather than a Sunday brunch. The coaches meeting will immediately follow the banquet. In the past, the coaches meeting was held at 8 a.m. This change will provide coaches with an opportunity to see the golf course during the practice round before the coaches meeting.

The committee also has asked all institutions to properly submit their tournament results to Golfstat within 14 days after the conclusion of a regular-season event. If institutions do not comply, they may be assessed a fine.

The committee also reviewed per diem for officials. Currently, 10 rules officials are reimbursed for lodging and receive a per diem for working the championships. The committee forwarded a proposal to also reimburse the 10 officials for their transportation costs, up to $320.
