St. Augustine's athletes won four individual events and a relay to propel the Falcons to the Division II Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships team title March 14-15 in Boston.

St. Augustine's scored 73 points to win its fourth title. Abilene Christian was second with 53 points, and defending champion North Dakota State was third with 41.

Libia Rodriguez and Maria Medina had a hand in two of the Falcons' event wins. Rodriguez won the 400-meter dash for the second consecutive year, and Medina was first to finish the 800-meter run.

Rodriguez and Medina also joined with Camethia Baker and Georgia Mullings to win the 1,600-meter relay. Samaiyah Islam added another first place on the track for the Falcons, nipping Nikkisha Maynard of Lincoln (Missouri) by one-hundredth of a second in the 60-meter high hurdles.

Another key component of St. Augustine's victory was its effort in the horizontal jumps. Cadriesha Akinfe won the long jump and placed third in the triple jump. Teammate Carlene Cummings came in third in the long jump and fourth in the triple.

Abilene Christian also was strong in the jumps. Maresa Cadienhead soared over the bar at six feet to win her third straight high-jump title, and Lakeshia Finch topped the triple-jump competition for the Wildcats.

Crystal Cummins and Amanda Thieschafer led North Dakota State, also in the jumps. Cummins placed in the top eight in all three events (fourth in high jump, sixth in triple jump and eighth in long jump). Thieschafer was second in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump.

Ashland's Adriane Blewitt was the only double winner of the championships, tossing her way to triumphs in the shot put and 20-pound weight throw. Her heave of 57 feet, 7 3/4 inches, that enabled her to repeat as the shot put victor also was the only meet record.
