Lincoln (Missouri) used a bevy of bests to win its first Division II Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships team title May 22-24 at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

The Blue Tigers, whose top previous finish was fourth place in 1997, won seven events and scored 98 points. The seven firsts were just one shy of Abilene Christian's meet record set in 1987.

Three-time defending champion St. Augustine's placed second with 67 points. North Dakota was third with 56.

Shandria Brown and Nikkisha Maynard both won two events for Lincoln, which became only the fifth institution to claim the team title in the championships' 22-year history. Brown sprinted to victory in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, and ran a leg on the Blue Tigers' winning 400-meter relay.

Maynard triumphed in the 100-meter high hurdles and the heptathlon. She also was the runner-up in the long jump.

Moya Thompson was Lincoln's other individual winner, edging Libia Rodriguez of St. Augustine's by nine-hundredths of a second in the 400-meter dash. Thompson joined Brown on the 400 relay and also was a member of the first-place 1,600-meter relay unit.

Marlene Smith also competed on both Blue Tigers' relay groups, and added a third-place performance in the 400 dash.

Rodriguez also finished second in the 200 for St. Augustine's. Carlene Cummings placed second in the triple jump and Samaiyah Islam came in third in the 100 hurdles for the Falcons.

Amanda Thieschafer provided North Dakota State with an individual champion as she outdistanced Cummings in the triple jump. Cortney Christensen (3,000-meter steeplechase) and Margo Knorr (high jump) added second-place finishes.

Adriane Blewitt of Ashland also was a double winner and in the process set meet records in the shot put and discus. Blewitt, who also was second in the hammer throw, was the 2002 shot-put champion and the discus winner in 2001.

Jackie Jeschelnig, Blewitt's teammate, won the hammer throw for the third time in her career (1999 and 2002). Jeschelnig placed third this year in both the shot put and discus, as she and Blewitt combined for all of Ashland's fifth-place total of 50 points.

Angelo State's Amber Miller set the only other meet record in the javelin throw.
