Sophomore Colby Confer's score with 11 seconds left capped a four-goal comeback to lift second-ranked Stonehill to its first Division II Women's Lacrosse Championship with a 9-8 victory over top-ranked Longwood May 11.

Host Stonehill (17-2) trailed, 8-5, early in the second half after sophomore Emily Bikowski gave the Lancers (13-2) their second three-goal lead of the day with her fifth goal.

Chieftains sophomore Courtney Duggan then scored twice in less than seven minutes to shrink the deficit to 8-7. Sophomore Brenna Newfell tied the game with 6:02 left, assisted by senior Melissa Gross, who also assisted on Confer's game-winner.

"It's just an incredible feeling -- I'm so happy for our kids," said Michael Daly, coach of Stonehill, which claimed its first national championship in any sport. "To come back from three goals down twice says a great deal about the heart this team has had all year long. We thought coming into the game that we would have to work as hard as we've ever worked, and it all paid off in the end. I guess it was our time."

Stonehill trailed early but rallied with three unanswered goals for a 5-5 tie. Longwood freshman Ali Shafer gave the Lancers, who had lost in last year's semifinals to eventual champion C.W. Post, a 6-5 halftime edge. Longwood's Bikowski scored two more second-half goals to set up the finish.

Freshman Erin Acone led the champions with three goals after scoring six in the previous day's 14-13 semifinal win over C.W. Post.

Bikowski's five goals for Longwood gave her championship tournament records for goals (11) and points (14).

Carissa Medeiros had 10 saves in her 42nd career win in goal for the winners. The senior made three stops in the final five minutes from point-blank range, helping keep Longwood off the board for the final 20:18. Longwood goalie Stacey Schmidt had 16 saves for a tournament-record 34.

Confer, Gross and Acone were joined by freshman Kate Sarkissian on the all-tournament team for Stonehill, while Bikowski, Schmidt and Carlee Ullery represented Longwood. Junior Georgia Carinci and senior Katie Roth represented Bloomsburg, while seniors Trish D'Amato and Taryn Brody and junior Trisha Moran were selected from C.W. Post.
