Miscellaneous: While the pay-for-play discussion continues nationally, difficult financial times have led to the possibility of another approach at Glenville State University: pay-to-play. Faced with $700,000 in budget cuts, the institution's board of governors agreed recently to a one-year experiment to require each of the school's 170 student-athletes competing in intercollegiate athletics to pay a participation fee. The money garnered from the fee would raise about 4 percent of the Glenville State's $650,000 annual athletics budget. Donors have discussed covering the expenses so the student-athletes don't have to pay.
