Facilities: Wingate University has officially opened a new football fieldhouse and unveiled a new Wingate athletics logo. The renovation of the fieldhouse at Irwin Belk Stadium and John Martin Field contains 7,500 total square feet. It features offices for the coaches, restrooms, elevators, windows overlooking the football field, a kitchen and two conference rooms. "The completion of the fieldhouse shows our continuing commitment to the overall quality of every facet of the university," said football coach Joe Reich. "The new facility certainly will be a tool in our striving to reach the top of the South Atlantic Conference." The new logo was developed by Peter McRae of Peter McRae Design in Charlotte, North Carolina. It features a new "W" and bulldog. It will appear on Wingate University athletics apparel and new uniforms ... Millersville University of Pennsylvania has updated Pucillo Gymnasium, the Marauders' home since 1971-72. All of the gym's pine bleachers, both downstairs and in the balcony, have been replaced with gold-colored, one-piece, multi-plastic bleachers. The new lower bleachers can be retracted electronically. In addition, the court's floor has been refinished and re-marked, with a new MU logo at center court, new NCAA logos and new MU logos at both ends. New markings for basketball, volleyball and badminton also have been added. The price tag for the project was $278,000. "The place was starting to show its age," said Millersville sports information director Greg Wright. "Portions of the bleachers had been declared unsafe over the years, and the administration took the appropriate action. The result is a brighter, more cheerful environment."
