Three new members have been elected to serve on the Division II Management Council.

They are David Brunk, commissioner of the Northeast-10 Conference; Donna Fields, senior woman administrator at St. Mary's University (Texas), representing the Heartland Conference; and Diane Husic, faculty athletics representative at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, representing the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

Their appointments will take effect at the conclusion of the 2004 NCAA Convention in Nashville.

Brunk

Brunk, who will replace Kevin Hickey of Assumption College, is entering his sixth year as Northeast-10 commissioner.

Before his appointment, Brunk spent eight years as a compliance and membership services representative for the NCAA.

A 1972 graduate of Ball State University, Brunk also served as assistant director of athletics and director of the Eagle Athletic Fund at Morehead State University.

He holds a master's degree in sports science and sport management from the United States Sports Academy.

Before becoming involved in intercollegiate athletics, Brunk owned and operated several minor-league baseball franchises for the Kansas City Royals and the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he garnered numerous awards for overall business and marketing/promotional excellence.

Brunk serves on the Division II Membership Committee and also has been involved with the Membership Review Project Team and the Amateurism Project Team.

Fields

Fields is the highly successful coach of the St. Mary's women's softball team. She will fill the Management Council position previously held by Debbie Taylor from St. Edward's University.

Under her leadership, the Lady Rattlers won the 2002 NCAA Division II championship. She is the first person from St. Mary's to earn a national championship title as both a player (NAIA, 1986) and as a coach (NCAA, 2002).

Fields has averaged more than 40 victories per year to compile a 262-101 overall record in her six years at St. Mary's. In 2003, the Rattlers won the Heartland Conference title and the South Central regional crown. Fields led her team to the No. 3 final ranking in the nation, losing in extra innings, 5-3, to the University of California, Davis, the eventual national champion, in the semifinals of the tournament.

As a three-sport scholarship athlete at St. Mary's, Fields made her mark in volleyball, basketball and softball before she graduated in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in physical education. She was named an NAIA all-America softball left fielder her senior year. Fields was named to the all-conference and all-district volleyball teams and was voted district freshman of the year in basketball. The university highlighted her accomplishments when she was inducted to the St. Mary's Athletics Hall of Fame in 1988 for softball and basketball.

In December 2001, Fields completed her master's degree as a Distinguished Graduate in education at St. Mary's.

Before returning to St. Mary's, Fields coached and taught at William Taft High School in San Antonio for 10 years.

Husic

Husic, who will replace Mary Gardner of Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, has been faculty athletics representative at East Stroudsburg since 1989.

She has been active in affairs of the Faculty Athletics Representatives Association, serving as president in 2001, president-elect in 2000 and vice-president in 1997 and 1998. She also has been a member of the FARA Executive Committee for most of the last nine years and was a member of the FARA Legislative Review Committee from 1994 to 1997.

She also has served on the Division II Legislation and Academic Requirements Committees, along with several other ad hoc NCAA committees relating to academics.

Husic chairs the chemistry department at East Stroudsburg, where she has been on the faculty since 1988. Before becoming department chair, she was coordinator of the biochemistry degree program and coordinator of a new chemical biotechnology program.

She holds a bachelor's degree from Northern Michigan University, where she competed as a swimmer, and a Ph.D from Michigan State University.
