The Division II Baseball Committee will use the Internet to a greater extent in its operations in an effort to streamline its administrative tasks.

The committee, which met June 16-19 in Indianapolis, will use a Web-based score- reporting system in addition to the process for selections that has been used in the past.

Because of this change, the committee is requesting that institutions submit score-reporting forms online. Faxed copies of the form no longer will be accepted.

The committee also dealt with several other issues during its meeting. The group recommended that the Division II Championships Committee implement a flat fee for umpiring crews. Currently, fees vary depending on the assignment of games.

The Baseball Committee also discussed a proposed bracket expansion for the tournament. In forwarding a recommendation for expansion, the committee also talked about format changes at length and will continue that discussion if expansion is awarded.

Site selections for the 2005 championship and beyond also were discussed. The committee plans to forward a recommendation for approval at the Championships Committee's September meeting.

Finally, the group recommended that Stanley "Skip" Fite of Augusta State University be named as chair of the committee.
