Women's golf committee requests allocation for regionals

The Division I Women's Golf Committee reviewed institutional travel expenses and bracket/seeding issues during its annual meeting June 9-12 in La Jolla, California.

The group forwarded a recommendation to the Division I Championhips/Competition Cabinet to provide per diem and travel expenses for regional competition.

Also, after reviewing proposals and suggestions from coaches, the committee determined that the selection criteria will remain the same, based on the cabinet's directive to not allow seeding more than 25 percent of the bracket.

The women's golf committee also dealt with several championships-administration issues, including setting the deadline for registration at the championships as noon Monday, the second practice day. The group also agreed that tee times will remain at 10-minute intervals and that leaders will tee off first during the first round of regionals.

In other actions, the committee:

Recommended a regional ranking of the top 18 teams to be published on the NCAA Web site December 12.

Determined that the selection announcement for the 2004 championships will be Monday, April 26, at a time to be determined. A toll-free call-in number will be provided.

Clarified the electronic-device rule to read, "Electronic communication devices may be used during practice rounds. Coaches or players cannot use them during the competition, except when monitoring live scoring for competition you are participating in at the time."

Adopted pace-of-play policies that the USGA uses for women's competition.
