SACRAMENTO, California -- LSU registered only one first-place finish individually, but cumulatively, the Tigers more than made up for it with several top performances to win the Division I Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships team title June 11-14 at Sacramento State.

The Tigers scored 64 points and earned their first outdoor championship since 2000 and their division-leading 13th overall. Coupled with the indoor crown it captured in March, LSU swept the Division I meets for the ninth time in the championships' 22-year history.

Texas was second with 50 points. Defending champion South Carolina was third with 47 points.

LSU's only event win came courtesy of its 400-meter relay unit of Stephanie Durst, Monique Hall, Lolo Jones and Muna Lee. Hall joined Nadia Davy, Neisha Bernard-Thomas and Hazel-Ann Regis to conclude the meet with a second-place finish in the 1,600-meter relay.

Lee had two of the Tigers' three individual second places in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. South Carolina's Aleen Bailey crossed the finish line first in both events and was the meet's lone double winner.

Bernard-Thomas contributed eight points to LSU's total by coming in second in the 800-meter run.

"This was a great title because we came in with a lot of expectations," said LSU head coach Pat Henry. "This team is young, we don't have any seniors, so it really makes for a great championship.

"I'm just happy we got through this meet healthy. With so many rounds of competition, this was a very difficult championship on the athletes."

Raasin McIntosh sparked Texas by placing second in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles, third in the 100-meter high hurdles, and running a leg of the victorious 1,600-meter relay. Sanya Richards won the 400-meter dash for the Longhorns and joined McIntosh on the first-place relay quartet.

Meet records were set in one-third of the championships' 21 events. Establishing new bests were: Mississippi State's Tiffany McWilliams (1,500-meter run), Brigham Young's Kassi Andersen (3,000-meter steeplechase), Stanford's Lauren Fleshman (5,000-meter run), UCLA's Sheena Johnson (400 hurdles), Oregon's Becky Holliday (pole vault), Florida's Candice Scott (hammer throw) and Indiana's Irina Kharun (javelin throw).

Fleshman recorded her third consecutive win in the 5,000. North Carolina's Alice Schmidt (800), Illinois' Perdita Felicien (100 hurdles) and Auburn's Elva Goulbourne (long jump) each won for the second year in a row.
