The National Wrestling Coaches Association recently announced its 2003 NWCA Division I wrestling academic teams.

Sacred Heart University captured team honors for the second consecutive year with a 3.412 grade-point average. Duquesne University finished second for the second consecutive year with a 3.332 average, followed by Central Michigan University, Brown University and Princeton University.

Team rankings are selected by taking the average GPA of each team's starting 10 wrestlers along with two back-ups who wrestled in at least one varsity match. The average grade-point average of the top-25 teams was 3.072.

Two NCAA champions -- Ryan Bertin of the University of Michigan and Robbie Waller of the University of Oklahoma -- highlight the individual rankings. Bertin won the championship in the 157-pound class, while Waller was the 165-pound champion. The first team also includes NCAA runner-ups Carl Fronhofer of the University of Pittsburgh and Alex Tirapelle of the University of Illinois, Champaign.

Central Michigan led all universities with six wrestlers on the team. This year's team was composed of wrestlers from 37 universities and included 45 NCAA qualifiers and 22 all-Americans. The average GPA of the team was 3.520.

Following are the team and individual standings for the 2003 NWCA all-academic teams:
