DIVISION I

Dates and site: The championships will be March 14-15 at Arkansas.

Field: A total of 270 athletes will compete in the championships. Athletes qualify by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.

Selection date: The spots remaining in the field after the automatic qualifiers are entered will be filled from the descending-order list of provisional qualifiers March 10.

2002 team champion: Tennessee.

Top team contenders: Alabama, Arkansas, LSU, Tennessee, Villanova.

Top individual contenders: Boaz Cheboiywo, Eastern Michigan; Alistair Cragg, Arkansas; Marquis Davis, Mississippi State; Otukile Lekote, South Carolina; Lejuan Simon, LSU; Dan Taylor, Ohio State; Luke Watson, Notre Dame.

DIVISION II

Dates and site: The championships will be March 14-15 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston.

Field: A total of 154 athletes will compete in the championships. Athletes qualify by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.

Selection date: The spots remaining in the field after the automatic qualifiers are entered will be filled from the descending-order list of provisional qualifiers March 4.

2002 team champion: Abilene Christian.

Top team contenders: Abilene Christian, Central Missouri State, NYIT, St. Augustine's, South Dakota, Western State.

Top individual contenders: Kevin Alliette, Massachusetts-Lowell; Will Banks, Western State; Duane Chappell, Lewis; Paul McRae, Western State; Anwar Moore, St. Augustine's; Arley Smith, Missouri Southern State; Cole Sprague, Cal State Stanislaus; Orville Taylor, New York Tech; Ivan Varbanov, Central Missouri State.

DIVISION III

Dates and site: The championships will be March 14-15 at DePauw.

Field: A total of 200 athletes will compete in the championships. Athletes qualify by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.

Selection date: The spots remaining in the field after the automatic qualifiers are entered will be filled from the descending-order list of provisional qualifiers March 10.

2002 team champion: Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Top team contenders: Lincoln (Pennsylvania), Montclair State, Wheaton (Massachusetts), Wilmington (Ohio), Wisconsin-La Crosse, Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Top individual contenders: Ryan Bak, Trinity (Connecticut); Chaz Clemons, Lincoln (Pennsylvania); Karim Cockrell, College of New Jersey; Ronald Cook, Lincoln (Pennsylvania); Noah Eschenbach, Wisconsin-Stevens Point; Andrew Rock, Wisconsin-La Crosse; Jeremy Scott, Allegheny; Derek Toshner, Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Only 20 institutions have won NCAA titles in 73 meets. Division I has had 12 different champions in 38 years; Division II has had three winners in 17; and Division III has had five champions in 18.
