Women's water polo

Dates and site: The semifinals and finals will be May 10-11 at Canyonview Pool in San Diego, hosted by UC San Diego.

Field: A four-team, single-elimination tournament will determine the champion. A third-place game will be played before the championship game. Three teams will be automatic qualifiers from the Collegiate Water Polo Association, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and Western Water Polo Association, and one team will be selected at large.

Selection date: April 28.

2002 champion: Stanford.

Top team contenders: California, Long Beach State, Michigan, Southern California, Stanford, UCLA.

Players to watch: Jackie Frank, Stanford; Natalie Golda, UCLA; Bri Hawkins, Long Beach State; Casey Kerney, Michigan; Jodie Needles, California.

Stanford and UCLA are the only two teams to have played in the NCAA title game.
