Division I

Dates and sites: First-round (May 8) and quarterfinals (May 11) will be held on campus. Syracuse will host the semifinals (May 16) and championship (May 18).

Field: A total of 16 teams will be selected, eight of which automatically qualify as conference champions. The eight other teams will be selected at large.

Selection date: May 4.

2002 champion: Princeton.

Top team contenders: Maryland, Duke, Loyola (Maryland), Virginia, Princeton, Georgetown.

Players to watch: Sonia Judd, Maryland; Katie Chrest, Duke; Suzanne Eyler, Loyola (Maryland); Laura Aumiller, Virginia; Theresa Sherry, Princeton; Wick Stanwick, Georgetown.

Division II

Dates and site: The semifinals and final will be held May 10-11 on the campus of a competing institution.

Field: Four teams will be selected at large.

Selection date: May 4.

2002 champion: West Chester.

Top team contenders: UC Davis, Longwood, C.W. Post, West Chester, Bloomsburg, Limestone.

Players to watch: Leslie Kado, UC Davis; Kristy Taylor, Longwood; Kathleen Sheehan, West Chester; Katie O'Neill, Bloomsburg; Kathy Campbell, Limestone.

Division III

Dates and sites: First-round (May 7) and regional games (May 10-11) will be on campus. The finals will be May 17-18 at St. John Fisher.

Field: A total of 19 teams will be selected. Twelve bids go to conference champions, five go to true independents, and two go to teams from automatic-qualifying conferences that didn't win their conference.

Selection date: May 4.

2002 champion: Middlebury.

Top team contenders: Middlebury, Amherst, College of New Jersey, William Smith, St. Mary's (Maryland); Gettysburg.

Players to watch: Katie Simpson, Middlebury; Abigail Ouimet, Amherst; Katie Wagenblast, College of New Jersey; Megan Shea, William Smith; Carol Schmoeller, St. Mary's (Maryland); Megan Murphy, Gettysburg.

Since, 1994, either Maryland or Princeton has won the Division I championship (previously the National Collegiate Championship). Middlebury and the College of New Jersey have dominated Division III in a similar fashion -- one or the other has won that title since 1991.
