What leaders in intercollegiate athletics are saying about NCAA President Myles Brand:

"As chair of the Executive Committee, my role has involved issues that bridge all three NCAA divisions. As the divisions pursued reform agendas, Myles has quickly become informed in-depth about the issues and has given his strong support for their goals. Of course, Executive Committee members made the decision on new leadership. Myles Brand came on board with our strong support of his leadership, and we have not been disappointed. On such important issues as Title IX and the positive development of all student-athletes, Myles has been a forceful advocate and an effective spokesman."

-- Carol Cartwright, president of Kent State University and chair of the NCAA Executive Committee

"He's had a successful first year and has provided strong leadership. It's been a year with a lot of tough issues and unexpected events. I don't think anyone could have imagined some of the situations that have come up. Myles has done a good job of steering the NCAA through these kinds of difficult situations and reminding people that the NCAA is a membership organization. He has negotiated in some rough waters and in some rocky straits, and we've come out the other side."

-- Robert Hemenway, chancellor of the University of Kansas and chair of the Division I Board of Directors

"He's taken some important initiatives and advanced them. As always, the question will be what the organization does to follow through. I think the Knight Commission members believe he's done a good job. A lot of them have served in various roles within intercollegiate athletics leadership, and they've had a chance to see his impact up front."

-- Hodding Carter, president and CEO of the Knight Foundation

"He's had a positive effect from our perspective, from his involvement, his communication and his willingness to discuss issues. His style is the type that I like. His support adds so much to our issues. That's something when you have the executive director of the BCA and the president of the NCAA standing up to discuss an issue and both coming from a similar perspective."

-- Floyd Keith, executive director of the Black Coaches Association

"He's very bright and has a very strong sense of right and wrong. He has strength to lead. That's certainly manifest in our interaction with him. His honesty has won our guys over in terms of being open and forthright. He has created a lot of energy and excitement on the part of coaches in terms of partnership and moving forward and making the sport stronger and better."

-- Jim Haney, executive director of the National Association of Basketball Coaches

"It's refreshing to work with someone who doesn't just talk about academic reform, but who has taken meaningful steps to make it happen. I'm impressed that he has been able to do so much in such a short time."

-- Ed Streb, faculty athletics representative at Rowan University and president of the Faculty Athletics Representatives Association
