Brad Alderson has been promoted to managing director of information technology at the NCAA national office. Alderson, who formerly was the manager of software development at the national office, began his new duties September 8.

In his new role, Alderson will lead the development and implementation of a strategic information-technology plan for the national office, and he will be responsible for allocating and managing the Association's fiscal and human information-technology resources to align with the plan.

Alderson joined the national office staff as a programmer/analyst in March 2000. In that role, he helped redesign the collection and publication of Division I football statistics, which was the first step in making the extensive library of collegiate statistics available to the NCAA membership and the public via the Internet.

He became manager of software development in September of that year and was responsible for managing the development and delivery of 30 new or re-engineered software applications in 33 months.

Before coming to the NCAA, Alderson was the senior vice-president of InterArt Distribution in Bloomington, Indiana (a subsidiary of Hallmark Cards).

Alderson obtained a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering from the General Motors Institute in 1986.
