The NCAA News

Nominations are being accepted for vacancies that will occur in September 2003 on Divisions I and II general committees and Divisions I, II and III sports committees, as well as Association-wide and common committees.

A total of 160 vacancies are anticipated on NCAA committees in September 2003, including 106 vacancies on division-specific committees and 54 vacancies on Association-wide and common committees.

Each division's nominees for division-specific and Association-wide and common committees will be considered through the processes that have been established in each division for filling committee vacancies.

All nomination materials are to be sent to Sharon K. Tufano, NCAA committee coordinator, at the national office (fax: 317/917-6808). The deadline for submission of nomination materials for all of the vacancies listed in the accompanying chart is November 29, 2002.

Information about each division's process, as well as information about specific committee vacancies, follows.

Division I

A total of 79 vacancies will be filled on Division I-specific general and sports committees, and at least 28 vacancies will be filled on Association-wide or common committees.

Nominations will be accepted only from the 31 conferences represented in the governance structure (the conferences are listed in Constitution 4.2.1 of the 2002-03 Division I Manual).

Conferences must submit two completed forms for each nominee: the Division I nomination form and the Division I nominee information form. Completed forms must be submitted by the end of business November 29, 2002.

Regardless of whether an individual has been nominated previously, the conference must submit the two required forms for each nominee. Nominees will be kept in the database for one year.

Information will be compiled and forwarded to the appropriate appointing bodies in Division I. Vacancies with terms that begin September 2003 are anticipated to be filled by the end of April 2003.

If an individual is eligible for reappointment, the individual's conference must submit the Division I nomination form to confirm the conference's support of the reappointment. It is not necessary to complete the Division I nominee information form for individuals eligible for reappointment. Reappointment is at the discretion of the appointing body.

This article does not contain information regarding Division I cabinet vacancies, effective September 1, 2003. That information will be provided directly to the Division I conferences at a later date.

Division II

A total of 33 vacancies will be filled on Division II-specific general and sports committees and at least eight vacancies will be filled on Association-wide and common committees.

Division II nomination forms must be completed by the nominee. No resumes or letters are accepted in the appointing process. Nomination forms may be found on NCAA Online (www.
ncaa.org). All completed nominee information forms must be submitted by the end of business November 29, 2002.

Information will be compiled and provided to the Division II Nominating Committee, which will meet in February 2003, to formulate its recommendations.

Recommendations for appointments to sports committees will be forwarded to the Division II Championships Committee for selection and then to the Division II Management Council for ratification. Recommendations for appointments to Division II general committees will be forwarded to the Management Council for selection and then to the Division II Presidents Council for ratification.

Vacancies with terms that begin September 2003 are anticipated to be filled by the end of April 2003.

Regardless of whether an individual has submitted nomination materials previously, a new nominee information form must be completed and submitted for all nominees. Forms for Division II are stored in the database for 18 months. One form is necessary for each committee vacancy.

Division III

A total of 22 vacancies will be filled on Division III-specific sports committees and at least two vacancies will be filled on Association-wide and common committees.

Division III nomination forms must be completed by the nominee. No resumes or letters are accepted in the appointing process. Nomination forms may be found on NCAA Online (www.ncaa.org). All completed nominee information forms must be submitted by the end of business November 29, 2002.

Information will be compiled and provided to the Division III Nominating Committee, which will meet in February 2003 to formulate its recommendations.

Recommendations for appointments to sports committees will be forwarded to the Division III Championships Committee for approval and then to the Division III Management Council and Presidents Council for ratification.

Vacancies with terms that begin September 2003 are anticipated to be filled by the end of April 2003.

Regardless of whether an individual has submitted nomination materials previously, a new nominee information form must be completed and submitted for all nominees. Forms for Division III are stored in the database for two years. One form is necessary for each committee vacancy.
