Wisconsin-La Crosse repeated as team champion in convincing fashion at the Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 23-25 at Macalester.

The Eagles, who won by 20 points last year, scored 64 points in 2002 and upped their margin of victory to 23. Calvin was second, followed by Lincoln (Pennsylvania) in third with 39 points.

The win, added to the Eagles' crowns in the 2001 cross country and 2002 indoor track and field championships, also wrapped up the NCAA "triple crown" for Wisconsin-La Crosse. It is the second time the institution has accomplished the feat, the first being in 1996-97.

Derek Toshner and Mike Turgeon recorded individual wins for Wisconsin-La Crosse, which moved into first place on the team championships list with seven. Toshner ran and jumped to victory in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 51.26 seconds. Turgeon unleashed a toss of 183 feet, 2 inches, to win the discus throw by more than 11 feet.

Andrew Rock and Dan Tutskey also provided plenty of points for the Eagles. Rock was the runner-up in both the 200- and 400-meter dashes. Tutskey sprinted to second place in the 100-meter dash and third in the 200. They also joined with Darrick Smith and Charlie Wittleder to finish second in the 400-meter relay.

Calvin was led by Joel Klooster, who finished second in the 5,000- and 10,000-meter runs. Both events were won by Haverford's J.B. Haglund, the meet's only individual double winner. The second-place team effort was Calvin's best in the championships' history.

Chaz Clemons was Lincoln's top performer. He won the 100-meter dash for the third consecutive year, setting a meet record of 10.19 seconds in the process, and anchored the Lions' victorious 400-meter relay unit.

While Clemons was the only three-time repeat winner, four other student-athletes added a second individual victory to ones captured in 2001. Ben Dreyer of St. Norbert (400-meter dash), Matt Groose of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (800-meter run), Mark Miller of Keene State (1,500-meter run) and Raheim Greenridge of Wheaton (Massachusetts) (triple jump) all successfully defended their titles.
