Guilford won its first Division III title in men's golf, finishing with a total of 1,212 May 16 at Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The Quakers were neck and neck with in-state rival Methodist, which entered the final day leading by two strokes. But Guilford's final-round 300 topped the Monarchs by 13 strokes and rallied the Quakers to the win.

Greensboro shot the best score of the tournament, a 288, and jumped from seventh place to second on the final day. Methodist finished third with a score of 1,223, followed by Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 1,233.

Guilford placed second last year, one stroke behind Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Guilford coach Jack Jensen led Guilford to NAIA titles in men's basketball in 1973 and men's golf in 1989. This is his first NCAA championship.

Chris Noll from Wesley earned individual honors with a 293, two shots better than Guilford's Dave Patterson.
