The NCAA News

Sports sponsorship: The University of Central Oklahoma has announced it will add women's golf to its varsity athletics program starting with the fall 2003 semester. "The time is right to add a women's sport, and we felt golf was the perfect choice," said Athletics Director Skip Wagnon. The institution will add a new adjunct faculty member to coach the team. The program will offer up to four grants-in-aid for the 2003 fall semester. Women's golf will bring Central Oklahoma's total sports offerings to 12 -- six men's and six women's.

Milestones: Shepherd College football coach Monte Cater became the institution's all-time winningest coach October 26 when the Rams defeated Glenville State College, 35-21. Cater (105-57-1) surpassed Walter Barr (104-48-1) with the victory.
