Abilene Christian athletes won four events to lift the Wildcats to victory in the Division II Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 23-25 at Angelo State.

The Wildcats amassed 91 points to edge defending champion St. Augustine's by three points. Western State was third with 63 points.

It is Abilene Christian's 12th title, and extends the run of team crowns by the Wildcats or St. Augustine's to 21 years.

John Kemboi grabbed center stage for Abilene Christian by winning the 800- and 1,500-meter runs for the third consecutive year. He tied the championships record for individual titles in a career with six.

Michael Aish of Western State also tied the same record after earning his third victories in both the 5,000- and 10,000-meter runs. Those are the same events that Cal Poly's Jim Schankel won in 1978, 1979 and 1980 as the first six-time champion.

Abilene Christian's other winners were Terrance Woods in the triple jump and Manuel Brandeborn in the shot put. Woods also placed second in the high jump.

The Wildcats also received runner-up performances from Christie VanWyk in the 100-meter dash and Bernard Manirakiza in the 1,500.

Lancford Davis led St. Augustine's, winning the 200-meter dash and placing second in the 400-meter dash. The Falcons were dominant in the hurdles races as Anwar Moore was first and Jermaine Williams second in the 110-meter high hurdles. Adrian Findley captured the 400-meter intermediate hurdles for St. Augustine's, with Marqueth Tard earning third.

In addition to Aish's exploits, Western State was strong in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Jason Donald was second and Philip McPherson third in the event.

Paul Kezes and Scott Nagelkerke were third and fourth, respectively, in the 1,500-meter run for Western State.

Jason Smoots of North Carolina Central (100-meter dash) and Orville Taylor of New York Tech (400-meter dash) won individual events for the second straight year.
