North Dakota State scored in nine of 13 events to win its first Division II Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships team title March 8-9 in Boston.

The balanced Bison attack compiled 67 1/2 points. North Dakota State placed third last year and was edged by Abilene Christian by one point for the 2000 team title.

Defending champion St. Augustine's finished second with 45 points, followed by Adams State with 41.

Amanda Thieschafer was North Dakota State's lone individual champion, winning the triple jump. Teammates Crystal Cummins and Sara Skudlarek placed second and sixth, respectively, in the event, as the trio combined for 21 team points.

The Bison also fared well in the 400-meter dash, as Tamara Brudy came in second and Jill Theeler earned fifth place. Brudy and Theeler also were members of the winning 1,600-meter relay unit.

Libia Rodriquez won the 400 and Samayah Islam was second in the 60-meter high hurdles for St. Augustine's.

Zoila Gomez scored nearly half of Adams State's points by winning both the mile and 5,000-meter runs. Nicole Duncan of Cal State Los Angeles also was a double winner after capturing the 60-meter dash and repeating as the long jump champion.

Maresa Cadienhead of Abilene Christian was the only other 2001 champion to win again. Cadienhead set a meet record of 6 feet, 2 3/4 inches in the high jump.

Ashland's Jackie Jeschelnig also set a meet record in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 67 feet, 4 1/4 inches. Abilene Christian's Meredith Garner tied the pole vault mark of 12 feet, 3 1/2 inches.
