Facilities: North Carolina State University has announced it will name its Carter-Finley Stadium playing field Wayne T. Day Field in honor of a $5 million gift from the Day family. The pledge is one of the largest gifts ever to the North Carolina State athletics program. North Carolina State Chancellor Marye Anne Fox said, "This record-setting pledge will allow our Wolfpack teams to continue to set records on the field." Day is a 1965 graduate of North Carolina State. The pledge adds to North Carolina State's Goal Line Drive Campaign, a five-year fund-raising effort that kicked off in the fall of 2001. With a goal of $50 million, the campaign will pay for the new football operations center and stadium improvements already under way at Carter-Finley Stadium. More than $28.1 million has already been pledged to the effort.

Milestones: Frank Giannone, baseball coach at Long Island University-Brooklyn Campus, won his 500th career game April 23 against St. Peter's College. Giannone is in his 26th year as a head coach ... University of Evansville baseball coach Jim Brownlee won his 700th game May 28 when his Purple Aces scored in the 13th inning to beat Brownlee's alma mater -- Illinois State University -- in the second game of a doubleheader. Brownlee is in his 23rd season at Evansville, with a career record of 700-608-5. All 1,313 games that he has coached at the collegiate level have been at Evansville, where he started as head coach in 1980. He has won more games than any coach in any sport in Evansville history.
