Facilities: St. John's University (New York) dedicated Belson Stadium September 21 in a ceremony marked with appearances by the 2001 Big East champion Red Storm men's soccer team. Taking part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony were St. John's University President Rev. Donald J. Harrington, project donors Maxine and Jerome Belson, and Red Storm men's soccer coach Dave Masur. The stadium, to be used for the men's and women's soccer programs, is funded primarily by a $6 million gift from the Belsons. The facility will seat about 2,300 spectators and is situated on a raised platform, with parking underneath, adjacent to the St. John's baseball field. "This stadium will greatly benefit our outstanding student-athletes, especially our soccer teams, for years to come," Harrington said.

Miscellaneous: The Mid-Continent Conference has announced that Conoco will serve as the title sponsor for the league's men's and women's postseason basketball tournaments March 8-11 at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Missouri. "We're excited to secure this partnership," said Bob Thomas, athletics director at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. "Conoco's commitment to Kansas City, UMKC and the Mid-Continent Conference will help brand these tournaments as premier events for Kansas City in 2003."
