NCAA championships director takes new post

NCAA Director of Championships Christine Pohl, who has been with the NCAA staff for more than a decade, has accepted new duties with the women's athletics staff at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

Pohl will be an associate athletics director at Arkansas with responsibilities in marketing and promotions, special events, and community and corporate relations.

As director of championships, Pohl staffed the Division III Championships Committee and was a staff liaison to the Division I Women's Volleyball Committee and the Division I Women's Softball Committee.

Pohl joined the championships group in 1994 as an assistant director after having served three years with the education services staff, where she was a youth programs coordinator.

Pohl is a 1981 graduate of Central Michigan University, where she was a member of the women's basketball team.

She served as an assistant softball coach at Pennsylvania State University after obtaining her master's degree there in 1984.

Before joining the NCAA staff, Pohl was a teacher at Interlochen Arts Academy in Traverse City, Michigan, where she coordinated the school's outdoor recreation program and initiated an arts medicine program.
