Four-peat's sake: It's Alaska Fairbanks again in rifle competition

Alaska Fairbanks posted its fourth consecutive team title and fifth overall at the National Collegiate Men's and Women's Rifle Championships March 14-16 at Murray State University.

The Nanooks won the crown with an aggregate score of 6,241 out of a possible 6,400 in smallbore and air rifle combined.

Kentucky finished second with 6,209 points, followed by Xavier at 6,204.

Alaska Fairbanks scored 4,692 points out of a possible 4,800 to become the NCAA smallbore champion for the second consecutive year. Xavier placed second with 4,656, and Murray State finished third with 4,637.

Host Murray State won the air rifle title with a 1,556 out of a possible 1,600 points. Kentucky finished second with 2,552, followed by Alaska Fairbanks at 1,549.

Alaska Fairbanks' Matt Emmons compiled 1,190 points two days in a row. Emmons shot the highest individual smallbore score in team competition, breaking the former record set by West Virginia's Stefan Thynell in the first rifle championships in 1980. Emmons' 1,190 in individual competition also is an NCAA mark.

Individually, Ryan Tanoue of Nevada had the highest air rifle score during team competition with a 395 out of a possible 400. Tanoue won the individual air rifle title with a score of 392.
