Fall championships previews -- Women's Cross Country

The NCAA News

Division I

Dates and sites: Regional qualifying at nine sites will be November 16. The championships will be November 25 at Indiana State.

Field: A total of 255 competitors will qualify or be selected.

Selection date: Thirteen teams and two individuals will be selected at large November 18.

2001 team champion: Brigham Young.

2001 individual champion: Tara Chaplin (Arizona).

Top team contenders: Arizona State, Boston College, Brigham Young, Colorado, Georgetown, Michigan State, Providence, Stanford.

Top individual contenders: Molly Austin (Colorado); Sara Bei (Stanford); Michelle Carson (Michigan State); Shalane Flanagan (North Carolina); Nicole Lee (Georgetown); Michaela Manova (Brigham Young); Roisin McGettigan (Providence); Amy Mortimer, (Kansas State); Jessica Scalzo (Arizona State).


Division II

Dates and sites: Regional qualifying at eight sites will be November 9 or 10. The championships will be November 23 at Ashland.

Field: A total of 184 runners will compete.

Selection date: The 24 teams of seven individuals each and 16 additional individuals will be determined through regional competition.

2001 team champion: Western State.

2001 individual champion: Hannah Lawrence (Western State).

Top team contenders: Adams State, UC Davis, Cal State Chico, Grand Valley State, Kennesaw State, North Florida, Northern Michigan, Western State.

Top individual contenders: Lisa Bloome (Western State); Caitlin Compton (Northern Michigan); Ann Glenn (UC Davis); Zoila Gomez (Adams State); Romy Krueger (North Florida); Mandi Long (Grand Valley State); Rebekah Mackie (Western State); Paige Osborn (Cal State Chico).


Division III

Dates and sites: Regional qualifying at eight sites will be November 16. The championships will be November 23 at St. Olaf.

Field: A total of 215 runners will compete.

Selection date: The 24 teams of seven individuals each and 47 additional individuals will be determined through regional competition.

2001 team champion: Middlebury.

2001 individual champion: Dana Boyle (Puget Sound).

Top team contenders: Calvin, Geneseo State, Middlebury, College of New Jersey, Wartburg, Washington (Missouri), Williams, Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Top individual contenders: Michaela Adrian (Middlebury); Julia Bensen (Williams); Missy Buttry (Wartburg); Emily Lahowetz [Washington (Missouri)]; Jessie Lair (Calvin); Mary Proulx (Keene State); Julia Rudd (Wisconsin-La Crosse); Beth Vesey (College of New Jersey); Melissa White (Geneseo State).
