Dallas set to host NACDA convention

The National Association of Collegiate Athletics Directors (NACDA) will welcome more than 1,200 athletics directors, administrators and conference commissioners from all levels of collegiate athletics to discuss issues at NACDA's 37th annual convention June 16-19 at the Wyndham Anatole Hotel in Dallas.

In addition, the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators, the National Association of Athletic Development Directors and the National Collegiate Licensing Association, all administered by NACDA, will hold their annual workshops in conjunction with the convention June 14-16. The National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators will hold its annual meeting June 15-16, while the College Athletic Business Management Association will meet June 19-22. After the convention, the annual NACDA Management/Leadership Institute will occur June 19-22.

NCAA President and former James J. Corbett Award winner Cedric W. Dempsey will deliver the convention keynote address June 17. He will be preceded by former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach, who will deliver a welcome address.

A special session on the celebration and recognition of the 30th anniversary of Title IX will take place June 18. Michele Tafoya of ESPN will emcee the session, which will feature Norma Cantu, former assistant secretary of the Office for Civil Rights; Barbara Hedges, athletics director at the University of Washington; Donna Lopiano, executive director of the Women's Sports Foundation; Pat Summitt, women's basketball coach at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; Judy Sweet, NCAA vice-president for championships; and Lynette Woodard, assistant women's basketball coach at the University of Kansas.

There also will be divisional breakout sessions and three sessions of round tables.

The Corbett Awards Luncheon will be held June 17. In addition to the presentation of the Corbett Award, NACDA will present its AD of the Year Awards, the NACDA/NIT Athletics Directors Award and the SportsBusiness Journal Athletics Director of the Year Award. Bill Curry of ESPN will be the luncheon emcee.

Also on June 17, the Honda Sports Awards Program will hold its 26th Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year Banquet. At that event, the Honda-Broderick Cup will be presented to the Female Athlete of the Year.

The NACDA Scholarship Awards Luncheon, presented by Sears, will be held June 18 and will feature the awarding of the four Sears Directors' Cup Trophies, the Sears Directors' Cup Postgraduate Scholarship Awards, the John McLendon Memorial Minority Postgraduate Scholarship Awards and the NACDA Foundation Football Scholarship Awards. Spencer Tillman of CBS Sports will emcee the event.

In addition to the many panel and round table discussions, more than 160 athletics-related exhibitors will be on hand to display their wares in the exhibit hall.
